X-rays were first discovered in 1895 using a phosphor by Dr.Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, in 1897 Radiographic screens of CaWO4 phosphor were invented by Mr. Thomas Edison.
Since then, CaWO4 has continued to be used for over 100 years as a phosphor for intensifying screens, and in '70s orthocromatic systems with screens of Gd2O2S:Tb green emitting phosphor developed and now are in a main stream.
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Ltd. has engaged exclusively in research and manufacture of phosphors for cathod ray tubes and X-ray intensifying screens for medical use as the top manufacturer, and at the same time directed its efforts toward new product development and quality improvement, over the past fifty years.
Sophisticated phosphor technology is also effectively incorporated in our X-ray intensifying screens, with much contribution in improving image quality in Radiogaphy and have a great role in development of fluorescense screens for digital Radiography being noticed remarkably.
Moreover, through continual quality improvement, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation is prepared to devote its ceaseless efforts to multply its future contribution toward the improvemnet of radiographic diagnosis in medical use.

By inserting film between intensifying screens, which are themselves phosphors coated sheets, we convert X-rays that pass through the human body into light, thus permitting the film to be efficiently exposed to the light. Through the use of intensifying screens, the quantity of X-rays is reduced to one-hundredth and sharper X-ray photographs are obtained.
